Functionalist Perspective (Structural Functionalism): School teaches valuable skills to young people, preparing them for adulthood., Social media provides opportunities for people to communicate and organize easily., Parents care for children, and teach values such as responsibility for life., Supervisors organize workers into efficient teams to be the most productive., Players work on fitness, tactics, and supporting each other to ensure the team wins., Police schedule shifts and locations to be efficient and keep peace., The Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches all share power in a system called "checks and balances"., Colleges base admissions on high grades and participation in activities., Soldiers train together for months, developing trust and compliance., Children who are neglected or given little guidance by family develop social problems as adults. Often they are unable to function in the outside world, or require a care facility.  , Conflict Perspective: Teachers control the lives of students in schools, and use discipline., Social media is the primary source of bullying in the last 10 years., While children do have rights, parents may punish or reward their children depending on the situation.  , Workers organize themselves into labor unions to protect their rights., When players on the team are not focused the coaches use discipline, and withhold playing time., Police officers have unfairly used lethal force against blacks or other minorities than whites for the same offenses., Citizens may feel as though their government is corrupt, which causes protests and tension can occur., Colleges may admit on the basis of family legacy or university donors, which usually excludes minorities., During basic training instructors push trainees to their breaking point physically and mentally., Gangs are groups of young people who establish their own "family" of trust. , Interactionist Perspective (Symbolic Interactionism): School extracurriculars are opportunities for student to be involved with inclusive organizations that all build relationships and have unique norms., Social media uses abbreviations & emoji to express ideas., Families share meals together, use forms of affection to each other., Many companies require a "professional" appearance, such as a suit & tie or a business suit.  , After touchdowns players jump high in the air and bump into each other in celebration., Police are trained how to respond to situations differently to prevent conflict., Members of Congress speak formally using words such as "aye" and "nay"., Applicants carefully present themselves during interviews to create a powerful first impression., Military salute higher ranking members of the service, and used the term "sir" or "ma'am" always in conversation. , Members of gangs use tattoos & other norms to be recognized. Sometimes this territoriality is seen on the landscape as graffiti markings. ,
