The [Canopy] layer of a [rainforest] forms a roof, as the trees are all a similar [size]. [Emergent] trees grow taller than the canopy layer and have greater access to [sunlight]. The [Understory] layer is below the canopy layer. Plants in this area grow much [larger] leaves to capture what little sunlight gets through. The [Shrub] layer is just above the [Forest] floor, both of which are very [dark] so plants die very quickly here..
